The PleaseFixAndrew.com website goes live.  As new progress is made for Andrew, we will post it here for everyone to see.

January, 2006

Andrew is currently not needing oxygen during the day!! This is a very big step for him, and we are so excited with his progress.

Also, Andrew is undergoing Vital Stim, which is a therapy process to regain his swallowing instinct.  We will keep you updated on his progress.

Spring 2006

Andrew is still working with PT and OT to strengthen his muscles. He has a vigorous weekly routine that he follows.

Andrew is still on a ventilator, but the setting have been lowered and he gets taken off the vent for 10 minutes a day.

Vital Stim was not a huge success, but did help Andrew somewhat.  He is still being fed though a feeding tube, but he is trying to work on his swallowing.

June 2006

Andrew recently spent 3 weeks at CHOP in Philadelphia for treatment of Adenovirus, Pancreatitis and a Metabolic Crisis.  During this time we learned that Andrew now suffers from three kidney diseases; Fanconi's Syndrome, Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis and Renal Tubular Acidosis.  An MRI of Andrew's brain also revealed that he now suffers from some brain abnormalities.

The good news is that Andrew is finally feeling better and has some how managed to bounce back once again surprising everyone.  He has been smiling, playing and even back to physical therapy.  He is looking forward to a week at the beach this summer !!!!

Fall / Winter 2006

Andrew is doing very well with his physical therapy.  He can now sit all by himself, twist around and play independently. Andrew is now working on learning sign language, enjoys looking at books, finger painting and of course TV.

In December Andrew turned 2, and celebrated with all his friends and family  with a Circus theme birthday party.  Cotton candy and Lulu the clown/magician were his favorites !!!!

Andrew has been medically stable for several months now, and he has even begun being disconnected from the ventilator for a few hours a day, and will hopefully be able to build up his tolerance for several more hours.  He likes to be able to move around freely.

Summer 2007

Andrew had a very busy summer with two vacations !!!  The beach was much more enjoyable this year because Andrew is spending more time off the ventilator so we were able to sit by the edge of the water and he would clap his hands each time the water ran up over his feet and legs. Andrew also spent many weekends in Aunt Dana and Uncle Paul's pool.  This year we had much more success with the floats and Andrew was able to float around the pool by himself.

The newest accomplishment is the "walker", Andrew is the master of walking in reverse !!!!  He also does what we call the side step but still practicing walking forward.  We are so proud that reverse is simply good enough for us.

In December Andrew will be going to a private nursery school, mom is already a little anxious over it but we know that he is going to love being around other children and will learn to be a little more independent.

Being on the ventilator is NOT slowing us down at all, Andrew is on the go all the time.  Shopping, going out to dinner, birthday parties, playdates, and now school.  Things medically have been stable for close to two years and Andrew has made many new milestones.
